PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

The 2008-2009 Rotary year is going to be one of growth in the areas of membership and service. Membership growth within the Rotary Club of Round Rock and in our community with the prospects of sponsoring a new evening Rotary Club and Round Rock’s first Rotaract Club. In addition expanding avenues of Rotary membership in Round Rock, this year is going to be focused on getting back to the basics of Rotary’s Service Above Self.

In addition to the great projects the Rotary Club of Round Rock has historically sponsored, most notably the Special Olympics track and field event, our Club is looking for new areas of service in our community and beyond. Keeping with Rotary International President D.K. Lee’s theme of Make Dreams Real, we have a committee charged with the task of identifying a local project for which $25,000 has been designated to provide for the greater good of citizens of Round Rock. Another committee, consisting of relatively new members to our Club, has identified a project for which our Club, with a District match, is providing roughly $2,500 worth of playground equipment to Hope Alliance. As with most of our projects, these two projects will be funded not only with Rotary money but also with Rotarians’ labor. Further, we will continue to foster the relationship with our sister club Rotario Tampico Chariel from Tampico, Mexico. We are currently working on two joint projects to help those in need in Tampico.

This year is sure to be busy and exciting. I am filled with constant pride to be a Rotarian, especially as a member of the Rotary Club of Round Rock. I am truly honored to serve as this Club’s President and I thank all of its members for granting me this opportunity.

Yours in Rotary service,

Doug Cornwell
