The Four-Way Test Of the things we think, say or do:
|
Happy
New Year! |
Back in December when we had our last meeting before Christmas we were presented a program about beauty pagents. Dr. Steve Wilson brought to 2 ladies who gave us a most interesting look into the world of beauty pageants. Julia Salmon gave us details on what it is like to be Miss AUSTIN USA, and her schedule is a busy one. Then Raevan Valadez . The Reigning Miss Texas Teen USA advised us on the hard work and preparation it takes to obtain this crown. To rave about these ladies physical beauty would be redundant, but their hard work and dedication is to be admired. Ms Betty Warner, who has worked with and encouraged ladies locally to enter the beauty pageants instructed them on the finer points of the competition for the last 25 years accompanied these ladies to our meeting… I still don’t see what Dr. Steve had to do with these competitions. AND THEN--- last Friday , Jan.6--- lo and behold—the Austin American Statesman had a large spread in its Metro Section giving publicity to Us and the Ladies with a long article and a large color pic--- Wow , the ole good News bucket will really be filled this Thursday--- Pictured on the front of the Metro section are:: Joe Knapp, George White, Ron Morrison, Gary Franke, and Tim Ritter along with Miss Valadez!!!!!!!!! - -
Last week Fred Daler presented Marvie Ellis. Marvie is a pediatric speech language pathologist and owner of a private practice here in Round Rock (Speech Kids Texas Press) at Hesters Crossing. Available for training and seminars , Marvie provides coaching for early educators and childhood professionals about communication and sensory issues. - I was prepared for long 30 minutes of dull rhetoric , but was I ever surprised--- she gave a most entertaining and informative program and I would like to thank Fred Daler , Program Chair, for finding us another interesting program.
And now---- let me give you an example of what it means to be a good Rotarian-----You all know about SERVICE ABOVE SELF don’t you? Well we have a Rotarian who lives it----Steve Laukhuf was impressed with the need to raise a large amount of money in order for Kaycee Zoch to have her badly needed operation, so he went to work. Through his power of the written word he published editorials and gave speeches and worked to help raise the needed money. His efforts didn’t stop until the needed funds were in hand. Kaycee had her operation and we have kept you updated on her progress. The operation was highly successful and Kaycee can lead a more normal life…..What can we say about Steve's efforts---- he saw a need for his services and responded in a grand manner--- when the awards are given out , Steve should be right at the head of the line. I for one, and am sure the rest of you are also, proud to be associated with a good Samaritan like Steve. And the whole world of ROTARY is proud of him.

On a recent vacation to Las Vegas, Fishin
Daddy’s spouse phoned a local casino and asked to have the good Doctor
paged. "Sorry Maam," came back the reply, " The house doesn’t
make Doctor calls!!!!"
I'm probably the only one in the whole club who can appreciate this--When the
first Marble building was built, everyone took it for granite!!!!!!!!
DID U KNOW????????
Before you head out to Bob McGaheys place for a high priced inhaler filled with mysterious chemicals, try chewing on a couple of curiously strong Altoids peppermints. They will clear up your stuffed nose.
Don’t go down to Clifford Reids
place and spend 2 dollars to clean a shirt...donate it to the Salvation Army
instead. They will clean it and put it on a hanger and the next morning just
buy it back for 75 cents!
